Adaptive cruise control (also called automatic cruise control or active cruise control) is a type of cruise control that maintains the speed of an automobile while maintaining a minimum distance from any vehicle ahead. By constantly regulating the allowable distance, the system can avoid braking in favour of natural deceleration.
The intended benefits are better fuel efficiency, alleviation of the accordion effect, increased road safety, and less stress for the driver.
