Alvarez

The Alvarez was a Spanish automobile built in Barcelona from 1921 to around 1923. Also known as the "MA", the car was a sporting cyclecar with brakes on all four wheels. It was manufactured by Jesus Battlo .

Alvarez is also the name of several people:

Alvarez is a Sephardic patronymic family name which has several meaning and several background; Arabic, Hebrew and Visigoth. It first found in Castile, the name theoretically originated in Visigothic times;

  • Son of Alvaro (=The prudent one) or (=speaker of Truth).

Alvaro allegedly come from a germanous person, Halward; Hal= hidden, mysterious and Ward= guardian

  • Son of Alvar (=Elf Army) or (=Light Elves)

Alvar; 1382 from Latin Calvaria. It theoretically stand for mount cavlary wich is the name of the mount of cruxification in Aramaic we talk of gulgulta or place of the skull; Golgotha.

However Alvarez does not have the same etymology in Arabic; it supposedly comes from Al-Faris or Faris meaning a Knight, Chivalrous or a Cavalier, and communally stand for "A heroic Knight who fought on horseback".

The different motto of the Alvarez families are;

  • Veritas Vincit (=Truth conquers)
  • Tu in ea et ego pro ea (=You for here and us for here)
