The BMW E90 automobile platform will be the basis for the future 3-Series of automobiles. It will replace the BMW E46.
The first models will be launched sometime during 2005, with M3 and Touring models, as well as a 330d, 335i and 335d, expected in 2006
Engine options available at launch will be:
Petrol engines
- 320i - 110 kW, 200 Nm
- 325i -
- 330i - (2996 cc) 190 kW (258 bhp), 300 Nm (221 ft.lbf), 24 valves
Diesel engines
- 320d - 120 kW (163 bhp), 340 Nm (251 ft.lbf)
According to Autocar, the E90 range will have the following features:
- 4520 mm length (53 mm longer than current 3-series)
- Extensive use of aluminum in front-load bearing structure
- 50:50 front-to-rear weight ratio for sporty handling
- New RWD platform with wheelbase 35mm longer than current 3-series
- New magnesium block 6-cylinder engines with Valvetronic & Direct Injection
