BMW M88

The BMW M88/3 is an I6 piston engine. It was based on the M88/1 that was used in the BMW M1 (street version). The M88/1 was in turn based on the M49 engine. The M88/3 was used in the early BMW M6 and BMW M5 (Euro E28 M5) and produced 286BHP (210kW).

S38

The S38 was an updated M88/3 and was used in the BMW M5 and BMW M6.

• 1988-1992 E34 5-Series (Motronic 1.2)
• 1991-1996 E34 5-Series (Motronic 3.3)
