The Battle of Custoza (1866) was fought (22 June 1866) during the Italian campaign of the Austro-Prussian War (also known as Third Independence war in Italian unification process).
The Austrian Empire army, led by Archduke Albert of Hapsburg, defeated the Italian army led by Alfonso Ferrero la Marmora and Enrico Cialdini. This battle was however inconclusive, since the Prussian army, allied to Italy, defeated the Austrian army in Germany, obliging Austrians to ask for peace.
