The BLS is Cadillac's 2006 entry level front wheel drive sedan designed specifically for the European market. The car is based on the automaker's Epsilon architecture and is built in the same plant in Trollhättan, Sweden that builds the Saab 9-3.
A range of engines are available in the BLS, including two diesel engines, a 1.9 L turbo four cylinder and a 2.8 L turbo V6. At 184.25 inches in overall length, the BLS is almost six inches shorter than the CTS, the smallest Cadillac available in the United States.

In 2005, General Motors vice chairman, Robert Lutz, announced that a second-generation BLS would be sold worldwide starting in 2010. It will probably be built alongside the next-generation 9-3 in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and may also be produced in the United States.
