The Chevrolet Aveo is a subcompact car built by Korean GM Daewoo, a subsidiary of General Motors. It is a badge engineered US version version of Daewoo Kalos (model T200).
The Kalos is based on the Flex concept by Giorgetto Giugiaro, a further development of Daewoo Lanos (model T100). The car started production in 2002; it originally came in three versions, a 4-door sedan and a 5-door hatchback. A 3-door hatchback is sold in Europe from 2005.
The Chevrolet Aveo began sales in 2003, replacing the hole in the Chevrolet US lineup left by the Chevrolet Prizm; it features different headlights and front fascia. The Aveo styling and name is also used for international versions of Kalos. In Canada, the Aveo is known as the Suzuki Swift+ and the Pontiac Wave. In China, Shanghai GM adopted a version of Aveo under Chevrolet Sail name to replace the Buick Sail.
The Kalos T200 was selling as the Daewoo Kalos in Western Europe up until recently; from 2005, it is rebadged as Chevrolet Kalos, but Eastern Europe, Arabia and South Africa retain Aveo name. In Ukraine, a version of Aveo is assembled from CKD kits at ZAZ.
The car comes equipped with engines ranged from 1.2 L SOHC S-Tec to 1.4 L DOHC E-TEC II for the Europe; Asian/Ukrainian markets receive 1.5 L E-TEC II engine and the US/Canada versions come with with 1.6 L E-TEC II engine.
In 2005, the sedan is going to be replaced with a refreshed model T250 designed in cooperation with PATAC.
