Crankshaft (comic strip)

Crankshaft is a comic strip about an elderly, curmudgeonly school bus driver named Ed Crankshaft which debuted on June 8, 1987. Written by Tom Batiuk and drawn by Chuck Ayers , Crankshaft is a spin off from Batiuk’s comic strip Funky Winkerbean.

One of the serious issues that Batiuk tacked in the strip was adult literacy when he revealed that Crankshaft could not read and followed his efforts to learn.
