Edgware Road is a road in London. It runs from south-east to north-west from Marble Arch, underneath Marylebone Road, through Maida Vale, Kilburn, Cricklewood (as Cricklewood Broadway). Just before West Hendon it is joined by the North Circular Road, at Brent Cross. It continues north through The Hyde , Colindale, Burnt Oak, and finally Edgware. The southern half of the road forms part of the London Inner Ring Road and as such is part of the boundary of the London Congestion Charge zone.
Certain stretches of the road are named separately, Edgware Road being used for only three of them. Kilburn High Road and Cricklewood Broadway , West Hendon Broadway , and The Hyde form four other such stretches. The Road was improved by the Edgware-Kilburn turnpike trust in 1711, and a number of the local inns functioned as a stop for coaches, some which still exist.
The southern half of the road is noted for its distinct Arabic flavour. Many Lebanese restaurants and shisha cafes line the street.
The entire length of the road is almost dead straight, hinting at its origins as a Roman road. See the article regarding Watling Street for further reading.
