DaimlerChrysler AG planned to assemble a series of crossover SUV models to compete with the BMW X3, the Land Rover Freelander, and possibly others, including the Volvo XC60. DaimlerChrysler would brand the series under Mercedes-Benz. The name of this series is not yet known, but DaimlerChrysler AG has already made preparations to use "X-Class".
It is speculated that the X-Class will share the C-Class platform, and production plans continued after the demise of the similar Smart Formore. It would be built in Brazil beginning in 2007.
