Mercury Mystique

The 1995-2000 Mystique was the Mercury version of the North American Ford Contour and the international Ford Mondeo.

Mystiques were built in Kansas City, Missouri and Cuatilitan, Mexico .

The Mystique went into production on August 15, 1994 and ended on December 23, 1999. Poor customer acceptance and its short life led to an inside-Ford nickname "the Mercury Mistake".

There was no successor in North America, although the Ford Mondeo continues production worldwide. Mercury will receive a version of the 2006 Ford Fusion called the Mercury Milan, a midsize car similar to the Mystique.

Awards

The Mystique was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1995 through 1997.
