Michigan State Highway 3, or M-3, is a north-south state highway in the U.S. state of Michigan in the metro Detroit area. for most of its length, M-3 is known as Gratiot Avenue.
Before 2001, the southern terminus was at exit 47A of Interstate 75 just southwest of downtown Detroit. Due exchanges between the Michigan Department of Transportation and the city of Detroit, M-3 was broken into discontinuous segments. Now M-3 extends from Gratiot Avene to Randolph Street south to end at the intersection with Jefferson Avenue in downtown Detroit. The northern terminus is at exit 243 of Interstate 94 in Chesterfield Township just a couple miles west of New Baltimore (Michigan State Highway 29 connects to the junction from the east).
The total length of the route is approximately 29 miles.
The road passes through Detroit, Eastpointe, Roseville, Clinton Township, Mount Clemens, and Chesterfield Township. For much of the way it runs more or less parallel with Michigan State Highway 97 to the north and with Interstate 94 to the south.
