Mid-engine design

Mid-mounted engine. The placement of the engine either behind the driver and in front of the rear axles. Or in front of the drivers but behind the front axles. This sort of design is usually used in sports cars, the benefits being that the automobiles weight is distributed evenly over all four wheels.

The draw back of mid-engine cars is that the space the engine takes up that could have otherwise been used for passengers or trunk space. In the behind the passenger in front of the rear wheel axle design, engine cooling can also be a potential problem. As in the Porsche 914, but that problem seems to have been solved in the Porsche 986
