Mojiko Station

Mojiko Station (門司港駅) in Moji ward, Kitakyushu is the oldest station on the Kagoshima Main Line in Kyushu and the terminus for those going to and from Honshu by boat. Since the construction of a train tunnel from Moji Station to Shimonoseki Station on Honshu it is no longer such an important station, except for the tourists visiting the Mojiko Retro area.

The Mojiko station building is a small replica of Rome's 'Termini' station and well-preserved. The Moji banana sellers have traditionally performed their song (banana no tatakiuri) in and near the station. Nowadays Mojiko station is the gateway to various tourist attractions and old buildings which have been preserved in the nearby streets under the name Mojiko Retro.
