Mountains of Mourne

(Redirected from Mourne Mountains)

The granite Mountains of Mourne are located in the first proposed national park of Northern Ireland. The area is an Area of Outstanding Beauty. The mountains are located in County Down, near the town of Newcastle. The highest peak in the Mournes (and Northern Ireland) is Slieve Donard at 2,796 feet (852 metres). The famous Silent Valley Reservoir is located in the centre of the region. It lies in the valley between Slievenalogh and Slieve Binnian. There are also many other valleys within the mourne area, such as the Annalong Valley, which are nice for lovely walks in the mountains. The Mountains of Mourne are visited by many tourists, hill walkers, cyclists and rock climbers.

The mountains are the subject of a song by Percy French.
