Narashino, Chiba

Narashino (習志野市; -shi) is a city located in Chiba, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 157,472 and the density of 7,502.24 persons per km². The total area is 20.99 km².

Narashino is home to the Yatsu Higata (谷津干潟), a protected wetlands for migratory birds. The spring and summer months see an increase of jellyfish and small crabs to the wetlands.

Also found in Narashino is the Yatsu Bara-en (谷津バラ園), a rose garden which boasts over 6000 individual blossoms in May and October. The garden was founded with Yatsu Yu-en(谷津遊園), an amusement park which was managed by Keisei Electric Railway and closed in 1982. When the park was closed, the city bought the garden, and has managed.

Three major train lines, JR Sobu Main Line, JR Keiyo line , and the Keisei line operate stations in Narashino. The travel time to Tokyo from most of these stations is approximately 1 hour.

The city was founded on August 1, 1954.
