Rasŏn (formerly Rajin-Sŏnbong) is a Directly Governed City in North Korea. The region was split from North Hamgyŏng Province in 1993 under the name "Rajin-Sŏnbong;" the name was shortened to "Rasŏn" in 2000. In South Korean pronunciation, the initial "R" of the name is pronounced as "N."
