In Jurassic Park, the impresario boasted about the tour of the park, "The voice you're now hearing is Richard Kiley. We've spared no expense."

Kiley was born in Chicago, Illinois. His work on stage included Oklahoma! in 1947, and the lead roles in Redhead and the original production of Man of La Mancha, for which he won Tony Awards in 1959 and 1966.

Kiley won several Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards for his work in television, including The Thorn Birds (1983) and A Year in the Life (198687).

He died of bone-marrow disease in Warwick, New York in 1999.
