Sakata District, Shiga

Sakata (坂田郡; -gun) is a district located in Shiga, Japan.

As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 41,126 and a density of 184.34 persons per km². The total area is 223.10 km².

On Feb. 14, 2005, Ibuki, Santo, and Maihara towns merged to form a new city called Maibara. Only Omi is currently left in Sakata. Omi will merge with Maibara on Oct. 1, 2005.
