Tata Indica

The Tata Indica is a small hatchback automobile manufactured by Tata Motors of India. The model is also exported to Britain and Europe. In the UK it is imported by MG Rover and is called the CityRover. It is the first car manufactured by Tata Motors.

History

In 1998, Tata introduced the most modern car ever to be produced in India: the Indica. Designed in Europe by the ItalDesign studio, it was a five-door compact hatchback with a 1.4 L petrol engine. It offered options like air conditioning and electric windows, which were previously restricted to only upmarket cars in India. Three years later the Indica was imported to European markets for the first time, and from 2003 the Indica was built alongside the nearly identical CityRover which was the result of a venture with the British manufacturer MG Rover Group.
