The Volvo 940 is among the last in the long-running line of large rear wheel drive cars from the Swedish car maker. Introduced in the U.S. for the 1991 model year, the 940 series was essentially a cosmetic re-skinning of the 740 and 760 series cars. All drivetrains and most options had been available in the 740/760,
with the exception of a 6 cylinder engine (which became available again in the 960 series to be introduced for 1992).
