1998

The 1998 V70 was a station wagon version of the Volvo S70 sedan.

2001

For 2001, the V70 moved to the new P2 platform along with the smaller S60 and larger S80 sedans. The V70 is more closely-related to the S60, however. A ruggedized version of the car featuring all wheel drive, plastic body panels, and a low pressure turbo charger was sold as the XC trim line. A 2 wheel drive version with a high pressure turbo charger was sold as the T5 trim line.

2002

For 2002, the V70 AWD trim line was reintroduced bringing all wheel drive back into the base line in addition to the XC trim line.

2003

In 2003 the V70 XC was branched off into its own XC70 line, despite being the same car. 2003 reintroduced the R trim line, a high performance all wheel drive version of the V70 that featured a higher performance engine and a sport suspension that the driver could tune for driving conditions with the press of a button.
